The United Nations

The United Nations, despite its weaknesses, is probably the world’s best hope for establishing an international democracy that will bring peace and a reasonable degree of equity and prosperity to all the people of the earth. In order to accomplish this task, it will have to maintain a deep commitment to making the voices of the less powerful heard, and to advocating for the health and welfare needs of the poor – especially those in the developing nations. To the extent that it allows itself to become dominated by the special interests of wealthy multinationals and by those countries who wish to rule the world by unilateral decree, the UN will fail in its crucial task.
